GOV. BESHEAR ANNOUNCES MAJOR EXPANSION FOR WILD TURKEY DISTILLERY
Global force in bourbon industry to invest up to $44 million, add up to 62 jobs

FRANKFORT, Ky. (Feb. 23, 2012) – Governor Steve Beshear today announced Gruppo Campari plans to invest approximately $44 million to build a new packaging facility at the famous Wild Turkey Distillery in Lawrenceburg, where the iconic whiskey brand was born back in the mid-19th century. The expansion entails the hiring of up to 62 employees.

The new facility is expected to be completed in 2013, giving brand owner Gruppo Campari full control over the Wild Turkey® brand’s entire production from distilling to aging to bottling, all in Kentucky. In addition, Gruppo Campari’s largest US-based brand, SKYY® Vodka, will also be bottled at the facility.

“Kentucky’s bourbon industry is renowned worldwide,” Gov. Beshear said. “We’re proud of Wild Turkey’s rich tradition and long-standing commitment to Kentucky. A Kentucky family first built a distillery in Lawrenceburg back in 1869, and now, nearly a century and a half later, Wild Turkey is still providing a livelihood for Kentucky families.”

Wild Turkey traces its roots to the 1800s, when a wholesale grocer, Austin Nichols Company, began specializing in bourbon made by the Lawrenceburg Ripy family. In 1980, French-based spirits company Pernod-Ricard bought Austin Nichols and opened Wild Turkey Bourbon to an international exporting network. Then in 2009, Pernod-Ricard sold Austin Nichols and the Wild Turkey brand to Italian-based Gruppo Campari, who has been steadily investing in the brand and the distillery.

The Wild Turkey brand sells one million 9-liter cases worldwide. The product line includes Wild Turkey 101, Wild Turkey 81, Wild Turkey 81 Rye, Russell’s Reserve® Bourbon, Russell’s Reserve Rye, Kentucky Spirit®, Rare Breed® Bourbon, and Wild Turkey American Honey®. Demand for Wild Turkey is at its highest level in history. The high demand led Wild Turkey to invest $50 million on a distillery expansion unveiled last year, doubling the facility’s annual capacity.

“We are very proud to be working so closely with the Commonwealth on the new Wild Turkey packaging facility in Lawrenceburg,” said Gruppo Campari CEO Bob Kunze-Concewitz. “The incentives and tax benefits the Commonwealth is affording us on this project clearly demonstrate the passion we both have for not only producing an outstanding Kentucky-born product, but providing quality jobs and other economic benefits to the community.”

To encourage the investment and job growth in Lawrenceburg, the Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority (KEDFA) preliminarily approved the company for tax incentives up to $2 million through the Kentucky Business Investment program. The performance-based incentive allows a company to keep a portion of its investment over the term of the agreement through corporate income tax credits and wage assessments by meeting job and investment targets.

KEDFA also approved Wild Turkey for tax benefits up to $350,000 through the Kentucky Enterprise Initiative Act (KEIA), which allows approved companies to recoup Kentucky sales and use tax on construction costs, building fixtures, equipment used in research and development and electronic processing equipment.

“This is exciting because Gruppo Campari and Wild Turkey are further investing in the community and creating new opportunities,” said Sen. Julian M. Carroll, of Frankfort. “The community, along with the surrounding counties, will reap the rewards of economic growth and jobs with the company’s new packaging facility. I also applaud Gov. Beshear for taking the lead to support our industry, their employees, and their families.”

“Anytime we can create new jobs and new opportunities for the people of Anderson County, it is a plus for our local economy and the Commonwealth as a whole,” said Rep. Kim King, of Harrodsburg. “I applaud this investment and the employment it will create when the packaging facility is up and running. I also applaud the continued economic and community partnership between the owners of this facility, Gruppo Campari, and the people of Anderson County.”

“Wild Turkey has been a strong economical partner for our community since 1869, and we are very excited that they have chosen to bring the packaging operation home to Lawrenceburg,” said Lawrenceburg Mayor Edwinna Baker. “In these difficult financial times, communities rarely find reason for great celebration. Through their commitment to invest up to $44 million dollars on this expansion project and the creation of 60-plus new jobs, Wild Turkey has once again provided our community an opportunity to share in the celebration of their accomplishments and future growth. The Wild Turkey brand is a true treasure to our community and the Commonwealth.”

“Wild Turkey has proven that they have always been a devoted economic partner for our community in Lawrenceburg and Anderson County. It is so exciting that Wild Turkey has chosen to continue to give back by returning the bottling and packaging operation to Anderson County,” said John Wayne Conway, Anderson County Judge-Executive. “Anderson County is grateful to Wild Turkey and Gruppo Campari for their investment of more than $40 million for the expansion project and their commitment to create as many as 62 jobs locally. We are eager to welcome home the packaging and bottling operation to Anderson County with much excitement!”

THE BIRD JUST ADDED A LITTLE MORE SPICE: WILD TURKEY® 81 RYE JOINS THE FAMILY
Legendary Kentucky Distiller Launches Oldest-Aged Rye Whiskey in its Category

LAWRENCEBURG, KY (February 21, 2012) – America has a thirst for the spicy kick of Rye whiskey, and Wild Turkey® bourbon has answered that call with a new, bold taste offering: Wild Turkey 81 Rye. The oldest-aged major Rye whiskey in its category, Wild Turkey 81 Rye will be available nationwide this spring.

Like the 2011 release of Wild Turkey 81 Bourbon, this whiskey was crafted by Wild Turkey’s Associate Master Distiller, Eddie Russell. A Kentucky Bourbon Hall of Fame™ inductee and the son of whiskey legend Jimmy Russell, Eddie had the latest cocktail tastes of both mixologists and whiskey enthusiasts in mind when coming up with Wild Turkey 81 Rye.

“Wild Turkey 81 Rye was created after talking with mixologists and whiskey lovers around the country who were in search of a Rye whiskey that wouldn’t back down to a mixer,” said Eddie Russell. “This extra-aged Rye is definitely the star of any cocktail – the flavor won’t run and hide. It stands up tall and reminds you sip after sip you are drinking real Wild Turkey whiskey.”

The smooth taste and warm smokiness of Wild Turkey 81 Rye is born from its natural aging process in American oak barrels with the deepest number 4 or “alligator” char. The final product is a kick in the pants mingling of whiskies aged 4 and 5 years — more than other major Rye whiskies in the same category.

America’s whiskey of choice at the turn of the century, Rye whiskey lost its luster following Prohibition. Today, bartenders and whiskey fanatics have rediscovered Bourbon’s spicy cousin, fueling a 27% surge in Rye whiskey sales in the US last year1. Mixologists appreciate the flavorful punch Rye whiskey gives to such classic cocktails as the Manhattan and The Old Fashioned.

“Eddie’s latest handcrafted innovation, Wild Turkey 81 Rye, is an ideal brother for Wild Turkey 81,” said Jimmy Russell. “This is unlike any other rye in the category because it’s distinctively Wild Turkey. There’s no mistaking that bold Wild Turkey flavor.”

Product Description:
Proof: 81
Aging: A mingling of 4 and 5-year old Rye whiskies naturally aged in warehouses without computer temperature controls
Super-Char: Uses char number 4 or “alligator char” on its barrels. This heavier char adds more flavor to the aging process, as the whiskey seeps deep into the hand-selected American Oak barrels.
Mash Bill: Uses the same well-known, unique mash bill as Wild Turkey and Russell’s Reserve® Rye whiskey products. A Rye whiskey must have a mash bill of at least 51% rye.

Tasting Notes:
Big spicy vanilla notes. Hints of Rye toast. Light smoky taste.

Origin:
Created by Wild Turkey Associate Distiller and Kentucky Bourbon Hall of Fame member Eddie Russell, a 30 year whiskey veteran and son of Wild Turkey Master Distiller Jimmy Russell. Together, they have more than 85 years of whiskey distilling experience.

Availability/Price:
Wild Turkey 81 Rye will be available March 2012 in the US ($22.99 750ml)

RECENTLY LAUNCHED WILD TURKEY® 81 BOURBON FLYING HIGH WITH COMPETITION AWARDS & INDUSTRY PRAISE

LAWRENCEBURG, KY (September 14, 2011) – After only three months, Wild Turkey® is winning the hearts of bartenders, consumers, and critics with its new Wild Turkey 81 Bourbon.

This new whiskey, the brainchild of Wild Turkey Associate Distiller Eddie Russell, recently won a Gold Medal and Best in Class award at the prestigious International Wine & Spirit Competition in London, with the judges noting it possessed an “inviting, complex nose with buttery corn, chocolate, butterscotch and ginger with some floral notes and hint of vanilla. Heavy char gives way to caramel and more vanilla. Full and deep in the mouth with all the nose promised plus some sweet notes that are beautifully balanced by ripe fruit. Some pepper and spice fill in at the rear. Creamy across the palate with long, dry, spice filled finish.”

“The International Wine & Spirit Competition is one of the oldest and most respected competitions in the world due to many of the top mixologists and critics that serve as judges,” says Associate Distiller and Kentucky Bourbon Hall of Fame member Eddie Russell. “We’re proud of this recognition because it’s a testament to all the hard work that went into developing Wild Turkey 81 as a truly mixable bourbon for bartenders and whiskey cocktail lovers around the world.”

Wild Turkey 81 was born through extensive research – that is if you consider sitting in bars across America talking to bartenders and whiskey fans research. Having already collaborated with his father, famed Wild Turkey Master Distiller Jimmy Russell, on Russell’s Reserve® Bourbon and Rye Whiskey, Eddie wanted to develop a spirit all his own that met the needs of today’s whiskey drinker, who is looking to experience bourbon with mixers and in classic, good-time cocktails more and more.

Wild Turkey 81 uses Wild Turkey’s famous high-rye mash for a spicy kick that lasts and lasts. Hand-selected American oak barrels from the Ozark Mountains receive an “alligator char” before being filled at the distillery in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky. Wild Turkey 81 is the only bourbon in the category to use this expensive, deep char (also called a “#4 char”), resulting in extreme vanilla and caramel flavors that are hallmarks of a Wild Turkey Bourbon.

Wild Turkey 81 is masterfully composed of whiskies up to eight years old, making it the longest-aged bourbon or American whiskey in its class. The result is a whiskey with a deep, rich amber color, and a nose full of fruit, butterscotch, toffee and toasted oak. On the tongue, you discover cigar-box sweetness, caramel, vanilla and pear, with a long finish of rich spice notes and hints of toast.

Wild Turkey 81 is priced at $19.99 (MSRP) and is available now in the US at bars, restaurants and spirits retailers nationwide.

NEW WILD TURKEY® 81 BOURBON TAKES FLIGHT
The Bird is Back with Another Way to Enjoy America’s Original Spirit

LAWRENCEBURG, KY (June 7, 2011) – Wild Turkey® is expanding its portfolio with the addition of Wild Turkey 81 Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey. The first whiskey solely crafted by Associate Distiller and Kentucky Bourbon Hall of Fame member Eddie Russell, Wild Turkey 81 was developed with bartenders and consumers in mind, creating a truly mixable spirit that delivers Wild Turkey’s famous kick every time.

Wild Turkey 81 was born through extensive research – that is if you consider sitting in bars across America talking to bartenders and whiskey fans research. Having already collaborated with his father, famed Wild Turkey Master Distiller Jimmy Russell, on Russell’s Reserve® Bourbon and Rye, Eddie wanted to create a spirit all his own that met the needs of today’s whiskey drinker, who is looking to experience bourbon with mixers and in classic, good-time cocktails more and more.

“I discovered those folks who didn’t want the punch of Wild Turkey 101 were sorely disappointed by other whiskies that disappeared like a fox down a hole when mixed with things like cola,” said Eddie Russell. “So with Jimmy’s blessing, I developed Wild Turkey 81 – an everyday whiskey that can stand up to any mixer or in any cocktail with the bold, in-your-face taste that is distinctively Wild Turkey.”

The filled barrels are placed in wood-rack warehouses that use no heaters or air conditioners, unlike others in the category. Continued Eddie, “Mother Nature’s got her hands all over this brand. We like to do things the old fashioned way around here, letting the barrels age solely based on the weather that shows up on our doorstep that day, which creates a more balanced whiskey.”

Wild Turkey 81 is a masterful blend composed primarily of six, seven and eight year old whiskies, making it the longest-aged bourbon or Tennessee whiskey in its class. The result is a whiskey with a deep, rich amber color, and a nose full of fruit, butterscotch, toffee and toasted oak. On the tongue, you discover cigar-box sweetness, caramel, vanilla and pear, with a long finish of rich spice notes and hints of toast.

“I’ve spent the last 30 years working with my son Eddie, and teaching him everything I know about making bourbon,” said Jimmy Russell, himself a 57-year whiskey veteran. “As soon as I tasted Wild Turkey 81, it was clear he was paying attention. I am one proud Dad.”

Wild Turkey 81 shows up to the party wearing brand-spankin’-new duds, in the form of the first package change to the Wild Turkey family in nearly 15 years. The classic bottle shape remains the same, but the label gets a “badass” makeover. It is cleaner and more aggressive than before, with the famous Wild Turkey symbol standing proud. The label gives a stronger nod to which Wild Turkey product you are about to enjoy – 81 or 101 – and shouts out our proud Kentucky heritage like never before. The new packaging will be featured with Wild Turkey 81, Wild Turkey Rye, and the kickass granddaddy of them all: Wild Turkey 101.

“Even a good old boy changes his shirt every now and again,” said Jimmy.

Wild Turkey 81 is priced at $19.99 (MSRP) and is available now in the US at bars, restaurants and spirits retailers nationwide. It will be supported by an extensive marketing campaign featuring print, outdoor and digital advertising, as well as a loud, badass social media campaign.

Wild Turkey 81 joins an already impressive lineup of bourbons and rye whiskies from the Wild Turkey distillery in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky, including the iconic Wild Turkey 101, Rare Breed, Kentucky Spirit, Russell’s Reserve, and American Honey®. Wild Turkey is distributed in the US by Skyy Spirits.

WILD TURKEY® ASSOCIATE DISTILLER EDDIE RUSSELL TO BE INDUCTED INTO THE KENTUCKY BOURBON HALL OF FAME
Fourth Generation Russell Recognized for Crafting America’s Spirit

LAWRENCEBURG, KY (September 14, 2010) – Fourth Generation Russell Recognized for Crafting America’s Spirit After 29 years in the Kentucky Bourbon industry, Eddie Russell, Wild Turkey® Bourbon Associate Distiller, will be inducted into the Kentucky Bourbon Hall of Fame, the highest honor given by the legendary Kentucky Bourbon industry. The ceremony will take place on September 17, 2010.

As the son of renowned Master Distiller Jimmy Russell, and the fourth generation Russell to work at the Austin Nichols distillery in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky, Eddie Russell is of an unmatched pedigree in the bourbon industry. Before being promoted to the position of Associate Distiller in 2007, Russell collaborated with his father to create “Russell’s Reserve,” the award-winning, 10-year old small-batch bourbon that serves as a testimony to the family’s heritage of distilling craftsmanship and tradition. Eddie’s experience in and knowledge of the bourbon business makes him a prime candidate for this honor.

Russell’s honor comes nine years after his father’s induction at the inaugural Kentucky Bourbon Hall of Fame ceremony in 2001. The father and son team has spent a combined 85 years crafting the iconic Wild Turkey Bourbon. “We are very pleased to hear of Eddie’s well-deserved honor,” said Andrea Conzonato, Chief Operating Officer of Skyy Spirits. “Passing down Wild Turkey’s traditions from generation to generation ensures that the brand’s integrity is kept alive through timeless processes and an uncompromising focus on quality.”

The Kentucky Bourbon Hall of Fame induction is one of many events that comprise the annual Kentucky Bourbon Festival, which takes place this year from September 14 to 19 in historic Bardstown, KY. Candidates are nominated each year by the bourbon distilleries as well as by the Kentucky Bourbon Festival itself, and are finally selected by the Kentucky Distillers’ Association. In order to be selected for induction, candidates must have spent numerous years working in distillery operations or bourbon promotions, and contributed significantly to bourbon’s stature and awareness worldwide.
